Opening soon...?

Soon coming to the end of the third lockdown. We hope! Atticus has managed to survive on a few Amazon and Ebay sales and the fact that we do not have the high overheads of other small shops.
We have started on the music festival for 2021 and, among other things, we're working on another film. This time based on the silent Expressionist movie From Morn til Midnight, and we hope to convert the shop into an Expressionist space, like the one below, to show the film in the autumn.
Most activity goes on at the Facebook page now but Alex George's reviews have been a great addition to the website, and FB.
So little to add but hope to see you all back in Atticus very soon.

Second Lockdown

11/11/2020

Now in the second week of the second corona virus lockdown. We have survived the year comparatively well as we have much lower overheads than many other shops.
We have also managed to have our our own mini festival in place of this year's cancelled Lancaster Music Festival. Atticus Future Fest 2020 was a surprising success in many ways. Our one live event, A Wonder in the Woods, went amazingly well, we were lucky with both our timing and the weather. It was horrible complex to organise with so much attention being paid to virus safety strategies. The Middlewood Trust allowed us to use the ground in front of their study centre giving us plenty of space to distance the audience. It was a very enjoyable afternoon, though just a little stressful for the organisers.
The most interesting Future Fest events were those in VR where we be experimented with formats and reached new audiences from around the world. There were lots of problems and mistakes but what did work was so good that we are eager to try out new ideas and build on what we have learned.

Atticus closed its door in March to comply with lockdown law but has continued to sell online and from the shop window.
We hope to reopen as soon as the crisis is over and send our thanks and best wishes to all our customers and wish you a safe transit through these troubled times.

So much catching up to do.

The shop Facebook page has so taken over from the website that it is only now that I realise that this blog page has fallen far behind.
Music Festival continues to be the big event of the year for Atticus, especially now that the One Minute Monologue  Competition has been handed over to The Lancaster One Minute Monologue Group.
The shop continues to survive thanks to the generous support of our customers and we are able to donate Tasikoki Animal Rescue Centre and other causes whenever we can. Although we sometimes have events in the shop outside Music Festival we are now concentrating on the second week in October as we can then guarantee good audiences and one off events during the rest of the year take a lot of time and energy and we cannot guarantee a good turn out.

Our listings have been sent in to the Music Festival for inclusion in the programme and this year promises to be our biggest and best Music Festival so far. Several old favourites are returning with new and original material and we have lots of new names too.
we will be posting details over the next two months.

Minologue competition.

The one minute monologue competition closed at the end of July and we were delighted with the number and the quality of the entries. The minologues have all been sent to the judges to chose the best written monologue and we are in the process of picking a date in the autumn for the readings, where the audience picks the winner of the best in performance category.
