Back to 4 days a week.

10/29/2025

Atticus is back to four days a week. I'm still not walking well and get tired  easily. After a day in the shop I go to bed about 7pm. And fall straight asleep!
I did manage some, what were for me,  late nights over the Music Festival though!
Many thanks must go to Illa for all the help. Thanks also to Tom Chatterjee who has come to us from The King's Trust on work experience for two weeks. He has been a great help with book searches and price checking, as well as giving me the chance to nip out for shopping and  other things when I need to.

We are now opening four days a week again! From Wednesday to Saturday. Although this will depend upon my health and if I am feeling overtired I may open for a few days. But for the last few weeks I have been managing four days a week.
I am also trying to get the shop set up for the music festival.

Please see theL love Lancaster Live website for details. https://lovelancaster.co.uk/lancaster-live/

Unsurprisingly I am finding it very difficult this year, but we have a great lineup and I'm making progress in getting the shop ready..
Many, many thanks to illa and Matt, Geraint and all others who have helped me on my way.

We're Back!

Atticus Bookshop is open again every Friday and Saturday. Tom suffered a stroke last year and was forced to take a break but not to worry, everyone's favourite bookseller is back! ( What!) And I'm Ila, a student at LU who refuses to leave the store and so has been put to work. I will also be opening the store on Tuesday evenings from 3-8 pm.

We've got some exciting new collections of local history, plays, and poetry -- do come browse! We will also be taking part in Love Lancaster Live, an alternative to the Music Festival, happening in October 2025. Keep an eye out for our events line-up!

Music Festival 2023

Yet another great Music Festival in 2023. All the artists were brilliant but special mention should be made of some that brought smiles to the faces of our audiences; the amazing Mike Potter from Brighton with his extraordinary guitar playing and scat singing, the total silliness of Battersea & Dogs with their human dog training and Them!Again for a wonderful closing set, when chairs were cleared away and the shop became a dance floor.
Finally many thanks to Ian Marchant who signed his new book One Fine Day and sang for us.

Opening soon...?

Soon coming to the end of the third lockdown. We hope! Atticus has managed to survive on a few Amazon and Ebay sales and the fact that we do not have the high overheads of other small shops.
We have started on the music festival for 2021 and, among other things, we're working on another film. This time based on the silent Expressionist movie From Morn til Midnight, and we hope to convert the shop into an Expressionist space, like the one below, to show the film in the autumn.
Most activity goes on at the Facebook page now but Alex George's reviews have been a great addition to the website, and FB.
So little to add but hope to see you all back in Atticus very soon.

Second Lockdown

11/11/2020

Now in the second week of the second corona virus lockdown. We have survived the year comparatively well as we have much lower overheads than many other shops.
We have also managed to have our our own mini festival in place of this year's cancelled Lancaster Music Festival. Atticus Future Fest 2020 was a surprising success in many ways. Our one live event, A Wonder in the Woods, went amazingly well, we were lucky with both our timing and the weather. It was horrible complex to organise with so much attention being paid to virus safety strategies. The Middlewood Trust allowed us to use the ground in front of their study centre giving us plenty of space to distance the audience. It was a very enjoyable afternoon, though just a little stressful for the organisers.
The most interesting Future Fest events were those in VR where we be experimented with formats and reached new audiences from around the world. There were lots of problems and mistakes but what did work was so good that we are eager to try out new ideas and build on what we have learned.
